5 Minute Speaker-Robin Corner
Robin spoke for 5 minutes on the topic of DNA.  It wasn't until the 1990 s that real breakthroughs were made in understanding DNA.  DNA is the digital code, using the letters A,T,C and G that determine our indivdual characteristics. They are visualised as strings like a ladder with the rungs, units of the code. There are over 3 billion DNA units in the CODE.  There have been significant medical advances in the understanidng of how our DNA work.

Guest Speaker-Nora Olsen

Josie Adlam introduced Nora Olsen, Branch Manager of Little Sprouts Kapiti.  Nora told us of their mission to give all babies the very best start in life.  The Kapiti Branch is an organisation run by volunteers that puts together and provides packs for new babies in need. Little Sprouts works with other organisations in the area, including Plunket.   The packs provided include all sorts of valuable and useful items from clothing and nappies to household items for a new baby inlcuding a cot, bassinet and stroller.  The organisation receives great support from local companies and also undertakes fundraising.

Recipients of the packs are selected by social workers that have identified a need.  This could be for a number of reasons, ie multiple births, recent bereavement in the family.

Little Sprouts provide a valuable service to those families in need and are working together as a community to change babies lives.
